What has UCP of Greater Cleveland done for you? – Mark
This week’s blog post was written by Mark, a long-time UCP Children’s Services client who has recently transitioned into UCP’s Organizational Employment Program.
I have been coming to UCP for ten years. I was about ten years old at the time. I received and still receive Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy on the Children’s Services side. I now also receive vocational skills training (in Vocational Services).
I have made a lot of progress with therapy in Children’s Services. I stand in the stander, I walk on the treadmill, I practice getting in and out of bed and yoga exercises. In Vocational Services I learned how to do a lot of things like assembly work and shredding. The staff helps to set everything up and shows me how to do my job. We sort things for Noco and Ford. The staff helps to set up the parts. We also make airplane parts.
Graduating and getting used to the workforce is hard. I am still getting used to it. UCP has had many meetings about transition that has helped. Hopefully my computer assessment will help me with my goal of getting a receptionist job in the community.
I like going to Children’s Services when I am done (working) on Thursdays. I enjoy that because I am with my therapist. I think Children’s Services staff is very nice to me and the Vocational Staff is also nice.
I am involved with social circle class and choir. I also like going on community outings and doing art here.
