Sharita Taylor is a UCP contract employee at PNC Bank Processing Center in Cleveland. She first started coming to UCP in October 2009, a few months after she graduated from Jane Adams Business Career Center. The focus of her education was business and medical tech clerical work. The first after-school job Sharita had helped her to improve her skills in packaging and data entry. She continued to gain job skills with a work adjustment assessment at Fifth Third Bank, where she improved her data entry and typing skills.
Sharita said she started attending UCP because she needed something to do after she graduated high school. “(My mom) found UCP and decided I needed something to do other than play on my laptop all day,” said Sharita. “I love my mom. Because of her, I now have something to do, people to see and meet, and challenges to face. I came here to learn and to do the job properly.”
In November of 2009, Sharita came to PNC, working in various departments such as the Lockbox Department, the Image Retrieval Department and Statement Prep. She started in the Brecksville office learning to scan barcodes and complete data entry, but this job site was a long drive from her home. Fortunately for Sharita, an opportunity became available at the PNC location at West 150th Street.
“I love the atmosphere and I love the people here!” said Sharita. “They make me feel at home. I love my job too! It keeps me up on my feet!”
She says her favorite job is delivering documents to other departments because she enjoys meeting and talking to people outside her division. Sharita also enjoys helping the Statement Prep Department with mailings. Sharita says that jumping from job to job is challenging for her, but she just tells herself to focus. This job has taught her that it’s okay to multitask.
After work, Sharita likes to hang out with her twin sister, especially when they go ice skating. The two of them participate in ice skating competitions with the Special Olympics and have won gold medals. Sharita has a busy schedule including SOAR, the Fulton Bowlers and being treasurer of the West Side Kiwanis Action Club. She also has a passion for entertaining people; she sings with her church choir at various concerts around Cleveland, and has even sung the Star Spangled Banner with her sister at Cleveland Indians games.
Sharita says she is grateful that PNC has given her the opportunity to work. Besides the great people and good atmosphere, she really likes that her job allows her to move around during the work day and learn new skills.
