The Reason We Walk
This week’s blog was written by Aminah and Dawud Sr., the parents of Dawud Jr., who receives therapy services at UCP of Greater Cleveland. They have participated in the Race to Empower as a family for the past two years, and are eagerly awaiting the third annual race on May 3, 2015.
Dawud Jr. has been with UCP 10 years now. The results are outstanding. Team Dawud has completed 4 triathlons – the last one Dawud rode a tandem bike with his father and had to peddle the entire 8 miles. He loved it! He enjoyed the triathlons, but was thrilled when UCP started the Race to Empower. Dawud walked his first mile at the 1st Race to Empower, and boy was he empowered!! What that did for his self esteem can’t be put into words. This will be his 3rd race, and each year he tries to beat last year’s time, which is his own personal goal. His ultimate goal is to one day run in this race. The Race to Empower is awesome, not as intense, and great for families. For Dawud it allows him to share his accomplishments with his family, friends and all the great therapist that have helped him get to the finish line.
So this year in 2015, on May 3rd, Dawud and family will be walking the one mile at the Race to Empower to support UCP of Cleveland and to help EMPOWER all children and adults with disabilities to continue to set GOALS and not limits!!
We invite you to join Team Dawud and the many other families who will be participating in the Race to Empower! To register, go to www.hermescleveland.com/roadracing/events/empower.asp.
