The Giving Back Group’s Harvest for Hunger Campaign Wrap-Up

Hook

This week’s blog was written by Amy Hook, a client of UCP of Greater Cleveland who also works in UCP’s OakLeaf Services Department. Amy led our Giving Back Group’s Harvest for Hunger Campaign this year. The Giving Back Group is comprised of UCP clients who simply wish to give back to their community, and one way they do that is raising money and canned goods for Harvest for Hunger.

Harvest for Hunger was a huge success this year and the Giving Back Group planned everything!  We had many fundraisers, including a Malley’s Chocolates candy sale, a carnival, many bake/lunch sales and lastly a chili cook-off.  We thought we had set a high goal, but after the candy sale, the carnival and just the first bake/lunch sale we had already exceeded our goal.   Everyone at UCP, we thank you for that.  We sold over $1,000, and we get a 1/3 of the sales so that equals about $450.  The carnival was a great success and a lot of fun for everyone, which included some volunteers from Saint Martin de Porres High School.   We actually raised about $300 that day alone.  It helped that there were good prizes.  The rest of the sales were bake/lunch sales.  Every week in April there were bakery goods and a lunch item for sale: the first week was soup, the next week was meatball mania, and finally the chili cook off.   In the end we successfully raised $1,607.52.  With this money, the quality of life is lifted up and people can have full bellies.  The Giving Back Group doesn’t believe that it’s how much you raise that makes the difference, it is just that you raised it.  With every $1, four people can eat.  It is better to give money rather than food because you can get different things that are needed.  It feels great!  It has been fun doing this Harvest for Hunger campaign.  It is knowing that we have helped people and that we could be in that position at any point in time.  We keep doing it every year because it helps and people need it every year.  Thank you very much to everyone who supported us!!
