“Did You Know?” UCP Client Facts

  • UCP of Greater Cleveland serves more than 1,000 individuals annually on a continuum from infants to senior adults

  • Only 25% of clients served by UCP of Greater Cleveland have a Cerebral Palsy diagnosis. The other 75% have significant and diverse disabilities

  • Cerebral Palsy is not a disease; it is a condition that is caused by brain injury or abnormal development of the brain before birth, during birth or immediately after birth. CP affects a person’s muscles and his or her ability to control them

  • Other types of disabilities represented at UCP of Greater Cleveland include, but are not limited to, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, genetic disorders and general developmental delays

  • Some of our clients are the only known people with their specific type of disability

  • Through our employment program, we help place clients in entry-level positions all the way to Doctorate-level positions depending on the client’s skill level and education

  • We currently serve clients in 14 Northeast Ohio counties including Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, Lorain, Erie, Huron, Medina, Summit, Portage, Trumbull, Ashland, Wayne and Stark. However, we are open to serving more counties

  • UCP of Greater Cleveland is not a branch of a national organization; we are an independent 501(c)3 organization with our own budget
