Extended School Year for UCP’s Alternative Education Day Program
Students in our alternative education program were thrilled to return to LeafBridge for Extended School Year camp in July! After months of virtual services, the LeafBridge staff were equally excited to finally reunite with students in the Day Program!
Our holistic summer program was filled with fabulous activities to keep students engaged and learning, thanks to our highly collaborative team including an Intervention Specialist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) and Teaching Assistants. Our team worked together to create activities surrounding the themes related to weather and nature.
Students especially enjoyed working together to build a volcano model and watch it erupt during a hands-on science experiment! We planted peppermint seeds as students chose colors and directed the activities using speech devices. Our new adaptive/inclusive playground was a big hit with the merry-go-round and the swings being favorite activities. Our Speech Therapist led a scavenger hunt while our OT and PTA led movement-based learning activities. Art projects, like making wind-chimes, were developed by our talented Intervention Specialist.
It was a great summer and we are excited to look ahead to starting the new school year in September!
